  • Our Five Favorite Pups From Christmas Movies

    December 08, 2019 2 min read

It’s that time of year again, when we saddle up on the couch with our pups, our hot chocolate and watch Christmas movies.  In honor of the season, here are our 5 favorite dogs from Christmas flicks.

Number Five - The Bumpus Hounds from A Christmas Story

Sure, they ruined Ralphie’s Christmas dinner, but if not for these hungry pups, Ralphie would never have been exposed to Chinese cuisine.  So, for expanding the cultural horizons of a young family, the Bumpus Hounds kick off our list.

Number Four - Kevin McCallister’s Dog from Home Alone

We know what you’re thinking, Kevin didn’t even have a dog.  But, why did he have a dog door, then? Why’d this absent pup make the list?  Well, we have to imagine this dog keeps burglars at bay throughout the year in what is clearly a very dangerous neighborhood. When your pooch is also your entire security system, that’s a pretty good boy.

Number Three - Zero from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Even being dead doesn’t stop this pup from sticking by his beloved master.  It’s a very special dog who is willing to skip the rainbow bridge in favor of living year round in a Halloween nightmare town.  Zero’s loyalty is so deep, he even stays with Jack as they are shot out of the sky by artillery fire. And  hey, a dog that can retrieve and reattach his owner’s body parts? Well, that’s a very impressive game of fetch.

Number Two - Max from How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The Grinch’s heart may have grown three sizes that day, but Max is the true heart of the Grinch’s dastardly plan to steal Christmas. Not only is he a really impressive 25 pound sled dog, he's a friend to the friendless - Max makes the list.

And our number ONE favorite pup… Snots from Christmas Vacation.

Sure, Snots has a sinus condition which may require constant household mopping, but he’s one loyal pup.  He will literally run through a door if he senses trouble. Think of all the communicable diseases Snots protects the Griswolds from by chasing out that squirrel.

So there you have it, our top five favorite pups from Christmas movies.  Didn’t see your favorite? Well, here are some honorable mentions:

    - Santa's Little Helper

    - Martin Ray's Dog from Lethal Weapon (yes, it's a Christmas movie)

    - Snoopy from A Charlie Brown Christmas

    - Rowlf from Muppet's Christmas Carol

    - And Every Dog From Every Hallmark Holiday Movie Ever

Happy Holidays from all of us at Grounds & Hounds!
