  • The 12 Pups of Christmas

    December 18, 2018 8 min read

This holiday season, we have teamed up with a few of our favorite rescues to bring awareness to 12 adoptable pups who need a little extra help finding a family this Christmas! Big, small, young and old - what could be better than giving one of these dogs the gift of happily ever after. All of our featured friends have been waiting for their forever families longer than their shelter mates, so we hope shining a spotlight on their amazing personalities will help each pup find the perfect family!

Under the care of our friends at Animal Haven (New York, NY)

Cody: I'm Cody! The loveable seven-year-old Shih Tzu mix who loves everything from snack time to endless scratches under the chin. I came to Animal Haven with an untreated skin disease known as Cushing's, but it's okay, I don't let it get me down. It's under control now and my hair is growing back faster than my rising fan base. If you have a kitty at home, no problem! I love everyone. I have a one-of-a-kind personality sure to make anyone smile. If we're on a walk, everyone will probably want to stop and pet me, so be ready!

Sasha:  I'm Sasha! The adorable two-year-old Staffie/Hound mix who's known for her playful spirit and incredible cuddling powers. My trainer tells me I'd do great in an adult-only home and I like to be the center of attention, so I'd rather not have any brothers or sisters. As I grow, I'm trying to keep my figure and would LOVE a mom or dad who likes to go running with me – you'll have to keep up though. Some of my other hobbies include puzzle toys that keep me engaged and mentally motivated. I'm a good girl but would need my mom or dad to commit to a training program for me – I've already learned: "drop it," "come," "sit," and "stay."

Minerva:Nice to meet you! My name is Minerva. I'm a youthful two-year-old and I'm told I'm a Shepard mix. I must thank the FDNY for finding me as I was scared and wandering the streets alone. They brought me right to Animal Haven where I'm waiting for my forever home. I'm really goofy and have lots of energy. I'm unaware of my own strength, so I'd do better in a home without kids. Can we go on lots of long walks? That's my favorite! I'd love for you to come meet me, but don't be sad if I seem a little distant – it can take me some time to warm up to people. Once I do, I promise to give you all my love and cuddles.

Yanni: Hi there! My name is Yanni and I'm an eight-year-old Terrier mix. Fortunately, I was saved from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, but I've been at Animal Haven for almost a year. I love all my friends here, but I'm ready to find my forever home. I do have a skin condition that requires daily medication, but I promise I'm the sweetest boy. I can be a little skittish and would probably do better in a home with no other pups or kitties. A few of my favorite hobbies include: napping, chowing down, hanging out at the park together and sleeping in bed. I hope you give me a chance!

Under the care of our friends at Young at Heart (Palatine, IL)

Rocky: Hi! I'm Rocky, the big 'ol ten-year-old lab mix who is a goofball at heart. I love plopping down on my big doggie bed and taking a nap in the sun. If the weather is nice, I enjoy laying outside, but if it's a little chilly, I like to lay on your feet while you relax. I'm a good boy who loves playing with other dogs and I find kitties to be rather interesting. I'm kind of a homebody, so I'll be okay if you need to go run a few errands or head to work all day. Plus, I'm not too fond of car rides. I do love to go for walks though! At some point during the day, I'll need to take my daily arthritis pill, but don't worry, it's not expensive! I'm a snuggly guy looking for my forever home. Come meet me and we can talk.

Blanca: I'm Blanca! I'm thirteen-years-old and have been looking for my forever home since January of last year. I became homeless when my guardian did as well and I wound up at a local animal shelter until Young at Heart rescued me! If you love lots of kisses and pittie mixes, I'm the girl for you. I've been waiting a while because I like to be the only pup in the home. One of my favorite things is making new friends - humans and pups. I'm looking for a home where I can be spoiled and relax all day long, I'm house-trained and a great little couch potato when we're just hanging out. I still love walks and car rides, so we can take me just about anywhere. I'm in great health, but I do have a bit of arthritis, so a home without too many stairs or wood floors would be perfect! I'd love to find my forever home as soon as possible so that I can get started on my happily ever after!

Under the care of our friends at Humane Animal Rescue (Pittsburgh, PA)

Zoey: Hello! My name is Zoey. I'm a two-year-old terrier mix who came to Humane Animal Rescue because my owner could no longer afford my veterinary care. I'm a healthy girl, but the skin around my ears can be a little sensitive. Despite the hardships I've gone through, I'm a happy-go-lucky pup. While I can be shy when you first meet me, I warm up and will be your best friend! I love long walks, treats and lots of hugs. I'm looking for a mom or dad that can care for my vet needs and help me become a confident pup. I'm ready to strut my stuff around the neighborhood!

Harley: Hi! My name Harley! I'm a pitty mix and I recently had my first birthday! I've been with Humane Animal Rescue for a little over two months and I'm ready for my forever home! I came in as a stray, but I'm the sweetest girl you'll ever meet. If you have kids, great! I love them! I'm the perfect snuggle buddy, I'm super smart and I love to go for runs. I would probably live my best life with a family that loves to be active.

Miko: Hi, I'm Miko! I'm a rambunctious black lab mix who is not quite two-years-old! I've been back at Humane Animal Rescue for about three months. I was originally at the shelter as a puppy but soon after being adopted, my owners had a lifestyle change and couldn't keep me. Right after I came back, I went to an intensive training program where I worked on my concentration, as well as my manners. I'm kind of a smarty pants and now available for adoption at the East End shelter, where I'm eager to become somebody's jogging buddy or hiking partner!

Wizard: Greetings! I'm Wizard, a four-year-old block-headed blue nose pit mix. You know what they say about block-headed pits: the bigger the head, the more love they have to give! I don't mean to brag, but I'm quite the handsome devil and I came to the shelter about two months ago. When I showed up, they told me my manners weren't so good, so I've been doing lots of training! Now, I'm one of the most well-behaved pups here!  People love my crooked smile, and when I get excited, my whole-body wiggles back and forth – it's my special dance. I'm ready to embark on lots of adventures with you, exploring the city and even taking long walks through the woods!

Under the care of our friends at One Tail at a Time (Chicago, IL)

Fish Fry: Hi, I'm Fish Fry! I'm currently living in a foster home and would love for you to come meet me. My favorite things include, peanut butter and wet food. I get so excited I do a little dance that people say I should put on YouTube (if only I knew that that was). I don't like broccoli and I don't like waiting for the next season of your favorite show even more than you. While we wait, I love long walks and just learned about the beach! I tend to charm just about everyone I meet and I'm a 10/10 couch snuggler. Right now, I'm not big on meeting other dogs – they make me a little too hyper. I'm looking to go on adventures with you and brighten your world just as much as you'll brighten mine. I'm part of One Tail's Good Dog, Forever Dog program so I come with a sponsored adoption fee and free training provided by One Tail!

Amos: I'm Amos and I'm four-years-old! I like ice cream a lot, but playing in the yard with my favorite frisbee is even better. If you're binge watching a show on a Saturday afternoon, I'm the perfect couch companion. I love long walks and have been told I'm good on the leash and ignore most dogs that pass us by. I'm great with kids and would love to have a human just as energetic as me. I'm well trained and would do just about anything for some string cheese. I'm currently a part of One Tail's Good Dog, Forever Dog program so my adoption fee is sponsored and I come with free continued training! I'm ready for my forever home!

Under the care of our friends at Anti-Cruelty Society (Chicago, IL)

Rufus: Attention all hound lovers! My name is Rufus and I'm a floppy-eared, cuddle buddy ready for my forever home! Since I'm a hound, I need a lot of long walks and don't let me off my leash – if I catch the scent of something, off I go! I get bored a lot and it can make me a little sad, so I need your full attention. While I think the city is nice, I would prefer a home with a big yard to play in. I'm more of a people person that a dog person, so dog parks are a no-no. If you like being active and enjoy the outdoors as much as me, I'm your guy!

Baby Girl: Hi! I'm Baby Girl, an adorable four-year-old pit bull terrier mix who has been at the shelter since August 18th, 2018. I'm energetic and I LOVE playing tug-of-war (haven't lost a single game). I would love walks to the park so we can play fetch together. I need an active home and a mom or dad that would be willing to teach me some manners – I learn quickly! I can't wait to meet you and give you a big hug. I'd be up for a quick game of tug of war too.

Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co. as well as our rescue partners wish you a happy holiday season full of friends, family and possibly...lots of wags. If you or your family is looking for the perfect addition this season, be sure to start at your local shelter!

And to support rescue pups 365 days a year, we hope you'll start each day with Grounds & Hounds coffee!
