"Low rating is not due to flavor. I love the taste of this coffee. However this was bought for a christmas gift. I didn't see the announcements about the delayed shipping due to warehouse changes. . . so that ones on me. But it took almost a month to arrive (on dec 24). The bags inside the box felt dirty/Dusty/gritty and there were big ugly stickers on the bag that didnt come off clean. There was no way i was able to give it as a gift. I had purchased coffee from another brand, worried that this wouldnt arrive in time. Im glad i did. Hope that this was a one off issue due to the warehouse shift. Pretty disappointing"

"World class coffee but achingly slow shipping but worth the wait."

    Delicious!

"Not as strong as other Sumatras we’ve tried. We prefer that. Great flavor. Recommend. Will buy again."

    nice change

"We love dark roast coffee and Good Boy is our favorite. The Sumatra is a nice alternative. We got a bag and the beans didn't have the bold flavor and tried another and it was much better. I guess beans are like grapes for wine, there will be inconsistencies."

    Delicious

"No matter how strong you make this, it's never bitter."

    Excellent Sumatra

"Difficult to find Sumatra and Grounds & Hounds is the place to get it."

Newbie Review / Now Returning Customer

"(The info. about this specific blend compared to other’s is below what comes next- “How I found this company and my new coffee journey…”) I became a (SUPER!!) G&Hs Coffee Co. Fan about a month ago when I was researching “how to brew the hottest coffee” or “how to keep coffee hot” or “coffee makers that make the hottest coffee…” (in short: I wasn’t just struggling with mediocre coffee, apparently, I was struggling with COLD COFFEE because I am a coffee PLUS cream and sugar drinker… not JUST COFFEE. The coffee HAS GOT TO BE VERY HOT when you add the cream otherwise there is *little* satisfaction to be had once the cream cools (your coffee) off even more (when using an unsatisfactory machine or not ramping up your process, apparently)! Yes! It really helps when the cream sits out much of the day and warms to room temperature, but STILL I needed hotter coffee!! MICROWAVING A COFFEE MUG AFTER HOLDING IT FOR TWO MINUTES IS ***NOT COOL*** (haha! get it??) ESPECIALLY WHEN I SWEAR THE MICROWAVE MAKES IT NASTY! Well, I actually (through Googling) came across a G&Hs article which actually suggested RUNNING YOUR WATER THROUGH YOUR MACHINE BEFORE BREWING WITH IT!! (Once it has put hot clear water into your also now hot carafe, pour the hot water into coffee maker again and it’s easier for your machine to reach optimal temperatures- that’s the idea behind their article- basically, if you help your machine by brewing it with “already hot water”, it won’t struggle as much to reach “optimal brewing temperatures…”. So! According to most of the internet, 195-205 degrees F is the ideal / optimal temperature range for coffee brewing. Now, I have sort of taken all of this new found information and G&H’s idea of preheating the water (and actual carafe- FYI) and I have begun quickly heating (*almost* boiling) my water in my electric kettle which is, again, quite quick. I then pour the hottt water into my carafe to heat that up, I let that sit for just a second to work the magic then I pour the hottt water into the machine and hit BREW! While that is brewing I take things one step FURTHER (I know- so extreme) but I boil a tad bit MORE WATER in my kettle and let that sit in my mug (or a row of mugs if I have coffee company). So, once the coffee is done brewing, I empty those HOTTT mugs of their clear hot water and I NOW GET ACTUALLY VERY HOT COFFEE!! I was originally using an outdated “Single Use Keurig Machine w/ an attached Drip Coffee Maker & Carafe” (like all in one- the ugliest least efficient thing ever, btw. SO BIG and just, sigh, pointless). The little heating warmer did nothing to actually keep the coffee hot BECAUSE IT TURNED AUTO “OFF” AFTER A FEW MINUTES!! AS IF IT WAS HOT ENOUGH TO BURN A POT OF COFFEE ANYWAY!! IT SO WAS NOT!! (Sigh). I have since (upgraded??) to a much smaller THERMAL “B & D” which was me being modest because all that I knew was that I NEEDED ANOTHER MACHINE (and was overwhelmed at the number of results while shopping- I am one who can shop around and read articles and reviews for MONTHS on something before pulling the trigger, but being in the situation that I was in, I HAD TO DECIDE AND FAST!! I was barely sipping my cold sour coffee before. While cups of “quickly turned cold coffee” were being left to sit basically FULL, I puttered around half p.o.’d because I had that rancid “bad coffee quality” taste in my mouth even though I never even got ANY SATISFACTION OUT OF A SINGLE PART OF THE COFFEE DRINKING PROCESS!!! Well, I may still be using the wrong machine since the new one that I’m brewing with is “thermal” BUT, at least I learned from G&Hs a bit about HOW TO GET HOTTER COFFEE!! Again- I basically just turn the heat UP on every single thing in my house and THE COFFEE IS HOTTT!! (Exaggeration there)! Man, I wish G&Hs had a forum for us to all discuss the “things that we have all learned and came to enjoy or appreciate” regarding our personal coffee brewing methods!! Because truthfully, I am still “on my coffee journey”… (due to having doubts about the efficacy of this “new machine” that I’m brewing with). With that, I will end “How I found G&H” (and “Tails of a Hotter Coffee Mug!!”) and I will continue on to rate their “Single Origin Sumatra” coffee which I received in the whole bean form! BUT FIRST!! Let me just say— G&Hs has totally won THIS CAT LOVER’S HEART OVER (yes I’m in love with my bobtail cat!!). BUT LITERALLY HOW CAN EVEN A CAT CRAZED KNICK KNACK COLLECTING “COLD COFFEE BABY” (haha!) NOT LOVE G&Hs WHOLE DEAL AND MISSION! IT IS SOOOOO LEGIT!! G&Hs is doing AMAZING THINGS with their caring (and very generous) mission to support dogs in need of food, medicine, toys, surgeries, homes, etc!! DON’T STOP AND NEVER CHANGE, G&Hs!! YOU ARE SERIOUSLY DOING EXACTLY WHAT SO MANY SIMILARLY MINDED INDIVIDUALS DREAM OF EVERYDAY! NOW THE REVIEW ON THE SINGLE ORIGIN SUMATRA!! (And a bit on G&Hs coffee in general??)!! So I purchased 4 types of G&Hs coffee the first time I went in to order the coffee- very soon after I read the “hotter coffee article”. I think that the idea that their coffee was all organic REALLY piqued my interest!! I then found out about the mission??! Cannot remember the order of what struck me first but I LOVE THAT THE COFFEE IS ORGANIC AND NOTHING ELSE IS ADDED LIKE FLAVORING!! Ah!! YAY!! I attempted to order all GROUND COFFEE but I either ordered one whole bean by mistake or I received it by mistake BUT I DO NOT CARE!! I WILL SAY THAT THE WHOLE BEAN ONE WAS HANDS DOWN MORE PALATABLE AND MORE REFINED IN EVERY SINGLE WAY. THE FIRST 3 THAT I TRIED WERE NOT BAD!! 1- Paper & Slippers (Ground)- This was tried first and I was so happy to have something new and it was so much better than store bought. (I *used to get* Dunkin Donuts) After I tried the other 3, I ultimately landed Paper & Slippers at 4 out of 5 stars simply because the flavor may not have been quite precisely for me. Super good though!! Have almost finished the bag!! 2- Alpha Blend (Ground)- Now that I have tried all 4 that I received, I plan to order this in WHOLE BEAN and I expect that it will receive 5 out of 5 stars because this is a solid solid solid terrific coffee! More on this below. 3- Morning Walk (Ground)- This one is really good but I am unsure about the last note in my opinion. Again- it is also almost gone!!! And I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Flavor just might not be *exactly* for me. 4- Single Origin Sumatra (WHOLE BEAN)- MAN OH MAN DID THIS KNOCK ME TO THE MOON, STARS AND BACK!! I WILL NO LONGER BE PURCHASING GROUND COFFEE. I THINK THE WHOLE BEAN ANGLE (Like G&Hs points out) is TOTALLY IMPORTANT. THE FLAVOR. THE WHOLE-NESS!! Five out of Five Stars!! I have already ordered a second order of several coffees in alternate flavors from those mentioned EXCEPT this time they are all whole bean except one is ground which is actually going to be a gift. I got her a whole bean option too just to help her convert to the “loud side”!! THANK YOU FOR READING AND WISH ME SOME SUPER HOTTT LUCK!! BEST COFFEE JOURNEYS TO YOU ALL!!"

Even the most resilient Jedi might be tempted to join the dark side for this roast

"This coffee could be 'A New Hope' for becoming a morning person! Immerse yourself in the bold flavors of this Sumatran dark roast and embrace its dark side. The delightful hints of pie spice, maple syrup, toasted marshmallows, and cocoa powder will enchant your taste buds. It's almost unbelievable that this coffee is from Grounds and Hounds and not Java the Hutt. Whether you support the rebel alliance or the galactic empire, we can all agree that this blend is absolutely delicious! May the coffee and the force be with you!"
