Apparently it’s National adopt-a-pet day, and black dogs have the lowest adoption rates (for reasons I will never understand). Obviously I have an special place in my heart for black dogs - both of my shelter dogs have been black. This mug specifically was created to bring awareness to Black Dog Syndrome (BDS). BDS is a true phenomenon where black dogs are typically passed up in shelters for lighter-colored dogs. Black dogs are likely to be left homeless or in shelters 4 times as long as other colored dogs.
Having had three black labs in my lifetime so far, this is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. Black dogs are just as friendly, lovable, caring, and cuddly as any other colored dog. Just like any other dog, all they want is a forever home and a family to love.
