Neighborhood Spotlight: Murray Hill (New York City)

Welcome to the pilot episode of our new series, “Bark Like a Local”! Whether you and your pup are recent residents or your dog has more travel mileages than a truck driver, the question becomes, “Where can my pup and I hang in town?” If you’ve asked yourself this question, you’re not alone – that’s why we’ve decided to tag along with our pup-loving friends from around the country as they show us a few of their absolute favorite dog-friendly hangouts. Join us as we take a stroll around the Murray Hill neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan with our hosts Lily Bug and Marisa!

 Meet Today’s Guides

Hi! My name is Marisa I live in New York City with my rescue Pit Bull, LilyBug. I’m a “One Lucky Pup” alum from the NY-based animal welfare nonprofit organization, MR. Bones & Co. I served as the Co-Executive Director for about six years! Currently, I’m a full-time fashion publicist when I’m not playing the role of LilyBug’s Instagram Manager. We have amassed 30K followers and we spend much of our time advocating for dogs in need and one of my favorite doggie topics – nutrition!

First Stop: Winfield Flynn: Wine & Liquor Store

We love Winfield Flynn! We started coming to this little hole in the wall much more frequently as of about five years ago after I adopted LilyBug. Once she discovered they had treats it was all over. Winfield has a huge selection and the staff is knowledgeable if you’re looking to impress dinner guests with something fancy, but if you’re looking for a casual pizza-movie-wine night, it’s perfect for that too. Personally, I’m a big fans of pouring a glass and snuggling up on the couch with Lily!

Second Stop: Madison Square Park (On the Corner of 26th & Madison:

Madison Square Park is not only one of LilyBug’s favorite places to find (and eat) leaves, but it’s iconic here in New York. We try to come just about every weekend. There are always a lot of very cool events like Parktoberfest – they have great music, good BBQ and you can bring your pup along, which is important to every pup parents.

Third Stop: Shake Shack

Lily loves this spot the most because she can get her ice cream treat here – it’s a little bit of vanilla ice cream, peanut butter and peanut butter dog treats. Shake Shack originated from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park to support the conservancy’s first art installation, “I “heart” Taxi.” It was so successful that they opened up for two additional summers before NYC awarded them a contract to have a permanent food kiosk in the park. It’s a great place to grab a bite for both you and your pup.

Unfortunately, we ran out of light due to the winter season, but Marisa provided us with a couple more spots she thinks you’d love!

Dog & Bone

Inspired by an English bulldog named, Winston, Dog & Bone is the perfect eatery for feel good food with a British twist. This dog-friendly café extends to the pedestrian pavilion on 25th street. It was founded in 2017 by a terrific group of food and dog lovers that wanted to integrate seasonal and local produce, all while creating a comfortable dining experience. I’m a big fan of the grilled salmon, but if you’re looking for a quick bite, the French onion soup and a side salad is delicious!

Ace Hotel

If you’re looking to do a staycation or are just visiting, we recommend the Ace Hotel! It’s dog-friendly and the overall feel is warm and inviting. This turn-of-the-century building is located in a convenient area, surrounded by countless legendary restaurants, parks, theaters, bars, you name it! They offer all types of accommodations for you and your fur baby that are sure to keep you both happy.

Hotel allows one pup up to 25 lbs. for an additional $25 a night.
