Home to the funky, the artistic, the bohemian, and most importantly, the dog lover– welcome to our third episode of “Bark Like a Local.” In a neighborhood full of colorful murals, unique boutiques, stunning architecture and more, we met up with travel writer and Venice local Christina Perez and her sidekick, Bjorn, to get a taste of the most dog friendly spots to hit while visiting Venice Beach.
About Our Tour Guides
Hi, I’m Christina! I’m a travel and lifestyle writer with publications in magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Departure. When I’m not traveling to new worlds, I’m usually down by the beach getting my toes wet or riding the waves of the Pacific. My furry companion, Bjorn and I can be found touring Venice, looking for pup-friendly hot spots or relaxing in the sun.
Our 1st Stop:
Mollusk Surf Shop (1600 Pacific Ave, Venice, CA 90291)
The best part about Mollusk is that it’s a quintessential California surf shop with a modern twist! Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a first timer, this shop can meet your needs. Even better, if you want to give the Venice waves a ride without bringing your our gear, you can rent a board on-site! They have a variety of apparel, art and boards that allow you to immerse yourself in the So-Cal lifestyle.
Our 2nd Stop:
Great White Café (1604 Pacific Ave, Venice, CA 90291)
Right next door to Mollusk, Great White Café is the best spot for a healthy (delicious) snack. One of the biggest appeals about Great White is that it features locally California produce and an extensive vegetarian menu –. I’m a big fan of their avocado toast! What truly pulls the plate together is the combination of avocado, cilantro, and fresh sliced radishes. It’s a taste that’s hard to beat!
Our 3rd Stop
The Venice Boardwalk
If you’re a people watcher like Bjorn and I are, the Boardwalk is the place to be. Whether you’re doing your own creative soul searching or peeking into someone else’s creative journey, the Venice Boardwalk is a can't miss location. Not only that, you can let your pup its paws in the sand, chase some birds, and soak in the sun – it's always a joyous occasion to watching your pup having fun in the sun.
Our 4th Stop
On the Water Front (205 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, CA 90291)
One of my favorite spots is On the Water Front – it’s an amazing place to grab a drink and hang out with your buddies. What’s special about On the Water Front is that you can play a few games of ping-pong or shuffle board in the beer garden while you wait for your meal. It has gorgeous décor and a number of exotic drinks. Personally, I recommend, the margarita, it has blue algae and is rimmed with charcoal salt – it’s a must try. I think you’ll find this place has it all!
Our 5th Stop
The Venice Canals
The Venice Canals are an experience all their own. It’s only a few blocks from the wild Venice Boardwalk, but here, it’s peaceful and quiet. And if you're a fan of architecture, the homes lining the canals will provide a full array of interesting architecture and design.
