Changing Lives and Saving Lives!

We've got some exciting news regarding this month's Rescue Roast partner.  As you know this month we're supporting Marley's Mutts out of Tehachapi, California. Through July 15th, 100% of the profits from Rescue Roast blend will support their Pawsitive Change Prison program, a rehabilitation program for people and pups.

This is our second time running the Rescue Roast program with Marley's Mutts, so we wanted to sit down with Zach and find out a little more about their incredible programs. Diving deeper into Pawsitive Change, we found out that the program is expanding in some pretty incredible ways.

But first, a quick refresher: Marley's Mutts Pawsitive Change program is an inmate canine training program that pairs prisoners in the California penal system with some of the most difficult pups in need of a home. During a guided, supervised 14-week training program, the pups undergo rigorous training to earn their "Good Canine Citizen" certification and get them ready for adoption by a family.

The inmates learn valuable vocational and life skills. They are instructed in how to train dogs – correcting bad behaviors, socializing them with people and pups. But, beyond that, the inmates also learn to work as a team, set and achieve goals and build self-esteem.

Of course, the pups also benefit from the 14 week bond. Many amazing dogs, who would have otherwise been euthanized for being "unadoptable" have emerged from the Pawsitive Change program as changed pups, ready for their new lives.

And now, with help from Rescue Roast, Pawsitive Change is expanding its mission. Marley's Mutts will now train emotional support animals using dog graduates from Pawsitive Change. Certain standout pups will be selected to undergo the additional training to be certified as emotional support animals, then will be gifted to a veteran in need, free of charge!

We're so excited to be a small part of the success of Pawsitive Change. And the addition of a veteran support element just makes it that much better. To join us in supporting this incredible mission, simply pick up a bag of Rescue Roast before July 15th. The profits will benefit not just pups and inmates, but also veterans now, too!

Did you know that over 67,000 dogs are used for laboratory testing and research in the United States each year. That’s a tremendous amount of dogs. Unfortunately, due to their docile and forgiving nature, beagles make up the vast majority of the pups found in research labs throughout the country. This is precisely why the Beagle Freedom Project was founded.
