3%. That is the survival rate of a shelter dog in Puerto Rico. It’s a grim fate for a
“Sato,” the name commonly used to refer to homeless dogs in Puerto Rico and astonishingly, there are estimated to be as many as 500,000 of these Sato pups. These pups are often cast aside due to circumstances well beyond their control, and never have the chance to experience a loving family.
Five years after Hurricane Maria devastated the island and left destruction from coast to coast, we find ourselves in a similar situation in 2022. On September 17th, Hurricane Fiona tore through the island, flooding streets and beaches, knocking out power for the entire island, and destroying homes which has only exasperated the homeless dog situation in Puerto Rico.
Thankfully, The Sato Project, is on the front line 365 days a year working to save the lives of these terrified pups. For the past 10 years, this incredible organization has provided funding for medical treatment on the island and has transported thousands of satos to loving families waiting to give them a forever home. But it’s not all plane tickets for dogs. The Sato Project also works tirelessly to stop the creation of more homeless animals on the island by providing free spay and neuter services.
It’s a very inspiring organization and they need our help now more than ever. Beginning immediately, through the end of the October, 100% of all profits from the sale of our Rescue Roast coffee will be used to fund the transfer of these Satos to folks just waiting to give them love and most importantly a forever home back on the mainland.
We hope you’ll join us in supporting this amazing organization and provide a second chance for pups in need
