Rescue Roast Feature: Stand Up For Pits Foundation

Every October, we celebrate Pit Bull Awareness Month by shining a spotlight on organizations working to protect, uplift, and save the lives of pit bull–type dogs. This year, we are honored to partner with the Stand Up For Pits Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to ending the abuse, discrimination, and overpopulation of these incredible dogs.

Inspired by Angel

Stand Up For Pits was founded by comedian and advocate Rebecca Corry, whose rescued pit bull, Angel, changed the trajectory of her life. Learning about the daily injustices these dogs face—from breed bans to dogfighting—Rebecca committed herself to action. What began with grassroots comedy events has grown into a national movement combining education, advocacy, and direct support for dogs who need it most.

Fighting Discrimination Through Advocacy

SUFP’s focus is on shifting culture. They challenge fear-based misinformation and breed-specific legislation, rallying thousands of people through awareness events like the historic One Million Pibble March on Washington D.C. They also use creative platforms, such as their Stand Up For Pits comedy tours, to raise both funds and national visibility for pit bull–type dogs.

Programs That Save Lives

While advocacy is at the heart of their work, SUFP also provides hands-on, lifesaving programs:

• Spay & Neuter Angel Day: A nationwide effort that has provided thousands of free spay/neuter surgeries for pit bull–type dogs in underserved communities, tackling overpopulation at its root.
• Angel Grants: Emergency funding for rescues, shelters, and individuals covering vet care, supplies, and even support for dogfighting survivors.
• SUFP Serving Angels: Events that bring food, enrichment, and attention directly to shelter dogs while honoring the volunteers who care for them.
• Hope Campaign: Professional photographers capture overlooked dogs at risk of euthanasia, paired with grants to encourage rescues to pull and save them.
• Dogfighting Tip Line: An essential program that supports law enforcement by gathering tips and working to end one of the most brutal forms of animal cruelty.
