  • How to Make an Americano

    October 27, 2020 1 min read

An Americano is one of the simplest coffee recipes out there. And it's a great way to get a bold flavor without the strength of a regular espresso. You may often hear people at cafe's ordering an Americano, but never had a chance to learn exactly what that meant. Well, we believe the best way to learn is to roll up your sleeves and make one yourself, so here is a simple three step guide to making a delicious Americano.

    1. Heat 8 oz of water to 198-202 degrees Fahrenheit

    2. Brew 2 oz of Two Tails Espresso (double shot).

    3. Combine water and espresso.

The amount of water you add to the espresso is fully up to your preferred taste. Obviously, for a more mild Americano, you'll want to add more water. And for a stronger Americano, you'll want to add less. One topic we did not specifically cover here is how to make the perfect espresso, which is the true star of the Americano. That topic is covered in another "How to Brew" Video that we hope you'll check out!

It is popularly believed that the Americano was invented in Italy during the second world war.  Accustomed to their drip coffees, American G.I.s would dilute their Italian espressos with hot water to try to approximate their favorite beverage from home.  The Italians named this concoction a Caffè Americano -- literally "American Coffee."

These days, you can just say Americano. And if you're ready to give it a try, be sure to pick up some Two Tails Espresso Roast.  Created specifically for brewing the perfect espresso.
