  • How to Brew: The Perfect French Press

    March 07, 2019 2 min read 2 Comments

There is something beautiful about the simplicity of the French Press – a cylindrical pot, a plunger, and a delicate filter screen. Welcome back to our series, “How to Brew” where our brewing guide, Nick Villalon,  provides you with tips & tricks on how to craft the best cup of Grounds & Hounds coffee. Today, Nick will show you just how fun and easy it is to brew with a French Press.

Step 1: Heat filtered water until it reached a boil and then remove from heat fr 30-45 seconds, allowing the water to reach the idea temperature of 205 degrees

Step 2: Measure 2 rounded tablespoons of whole bean coffee for every 6 ounces of water used in brewing.

Step 3: While water is heating, coarsely grind coffee so it appears to be the same size as coarse sea salt.

Step 4: Add ground coffee into the empty French Press.

Step 5: Slowly pour enough of the water to cover grounds and let is soak for 20 seconds, stir with a wooden or plastic spoon to allow even water contact.

Step 6: Pour in the remaining water and place the lid on your French Press (Do not plunge! We know that it's tempting).

Step 7: Set your timer for 4-5 minutes and spend some quality time with your pup, maybe play a few rounds of fetch with one of our Grounds & Hounds plush toys.

Step 8: After 4-5 minutes, plunge the French Press, pour into your favorite mug, and enjoy that eye closing sip.

Thank you for stopping by and we hope that this gives you a little insight on how to brew the perfect French Press. Visit our store for all your brewing and coffee needs.

Thank you! I am wondering about getting one because by drip maker doesn’t make good coffee. Only mediocre coffee.
